GENERAL QUEERIES
A Brisbane LGBTQI+ PODCAST
Heya and welcome to General Queeries!
We are a podcast that talks about the LGBTQI+ community in Brisbane and the everyday lives and experiences people have. Stop on by if you want to relate, learn, or just listen to some good conversations.
Welcome back friends to General Queeries! For todays episode we are joined by Evie Ryder from Open Doors! Open Doors is an LGBT youth service based in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane, and a service that we’ve shouted out a number of times. In today’s episode we focus on the services that Open Doors provides, as well as a few events they hold throughout the year, and the goal of the organisation. It’s a slightly more serious episode this week but well worth the listen, especially if you are still new to the whole LGBT thing. Check a look and enjoy

CW/TW – transphobia, discussion of assault
Hey everyone and welcome back to General Queeries! Today we continue our discussion of Rocky Horror, this time deciding to delve into the Rocky Horror sequels and extended universe. Did you know there are sequels to Rocky Horror? We did the research, we ran the numbers, and we found the best information to bring to you about this bizarre movie franchise. We also discuss Richard O’Brien and why he’s a complicated figure. Big warning on some transphobic quotes in this episode.

Hello wonderful listeners, today we have a special guest. Recently, Tahlya appeared on the Sexuali-tea podcast to talk about David Lynch, and in return Lisa is here to talk to us about fandom from a queer perspective. We start off talking about Lisa’s podcast and how she started it, and then deep dive into the many ways fandom and queerness interact, and the ways to engage with fandom. Check a listen and enjoy the content.

Another return guest has come today, here to catch up and update us. Alex is back to talk to us about theatre and MELT, an annual queer arts festival held at the Brisbane Powerhouse. The MELT festival allows stories and accounts of Brisbane history to be told through immersive and alternative works that offer a new perspective on queer history and experiences. Following that we move onto the performance of gender, and the ways in which people can be more comfortable handling their presentation of gender. Check a listen and enjoy

CW- the discourse, queerphobia, references to selfharm
Hello once again friends, we continue our trend of returning guests with Merrin coming back for the third time to catch up once more. Tahlya has chosen the topic for today’s episode and has decided to focus on tumblr and identity. A common narrative among young queer folx is that the first time they were exposed to alternative identities is thanks to tumblr, so the team decided to deep dive on the causes of this and their own experiences. Take a listen and enjoy reliving your high school years on tumblr.

Heya folks! Bit of a sad one today with a couple announcements. Firstly, we’re very sorry to announce that we will be taking an extended break. Unfortunately, university takes a lot of time and so does this podcast, and we don’t want our quality to drop. We will be back, but a break is needed. Secondly, sadly Megan will not be joining us when we return. Megan’s recently found full-time work and sometimes you gotta prioritise. I would recommend listening to the episode for a better explanation so you can hear from Megan herself, but we hope you will be understanding of the break and why we’re taking it. Thank you all so much for your consistent support for this podcast. We honestly never expected be break the 1000 listeners a week mark, so this is incredible. I just hope you will all be around when we return. Love you all
